When access to your digital identity is lost, can the law ensure that your data is not lost with it?

The Hon’ble Punjab & Haryana High Court has issued notice to Google India and the Union of India in a petition concerning the recovery of three inaccessible Gmail accounts of a 19-year-old engineering student. The matter raises important questions concerning digital rights, data protection, intermediary accountability and the right to access one’s personal data. The petition also examines the interplay between the DPDP Act, 2023, the IT Rules, 2021 and Article 21, particularly where conventional account-recovery mechanisms fail to provide an effective remedy.

Pleased to represent the petitioner in this matter.
