2nd Memorial Webinar on the Birth Anniversary of Former Chief Justice of India, Justice Madan Mohan Punchhi

Anchored the 2nd Memorial #Webinar on the Birth Anniversary of my Nanaji, Former Chief Justice of India, Justice Madan Mohan Punchhi, on the topic, “How to Make India the Hub of Arbitration”, on behalf of Competent Foundation. Had the pleasure of listening to the Hon’ble Union Minister of Law, Shri Kiren Rijiju; Senior Advocate & Former Solicitor General of India Shri Ranjit Kumar; and Senior Advocate & established jurist on Arbitration, Dr PC Markanda.

A little about the history of the Memorial Webinar: –

This endeavour started in 2020, with the sole focus of being able to reminisce and dwell on my Nana Justice Punchhi’s memories. In doing so, we had the pleasure of listening to the experiences of Justice JS Khehar, Justice KT Thomas and Justice NK Sodhi. I was very touched and overwhelmed that all of them spoke about Nana’s unique takes on morality and law, so much so that his judgments used to echo a unique brand of justice. With such a wonderful start, this year we aimed to talk about something that is of more relevance and chose arbitration as a topic! Considering the recent judgments have indicated a seismic shift in a pro-arbitration regime, it surely brings forth various unique opportunities and challenges. These shall directly affect lawyers, litigants and even policymakers and through the webinar, we aimed to identify, put forth solutions and initiate a dialogue with regard to the same.

A little about the foundation

This program was organized by Competent Foundation and it was established in 2006 by my grandfather, Late Sh Balramji Das Tandon, Former Governor of Chhattisgarh. The foundation is presently under the able guidance of my father, Shri Sanjay Tandon. Through the foundation’s banner, we have been able to conduct 2 blood donation camps every year, across India which has included around 68 camps and approximately 10,000 donations; we have also had the privilege of being able to provide 300 school kits to the needy children of Chandigarh; infact during peak Covid times, we were able to setup a covid-19 center that catered to over 200 patients; similarly, we even have our sister foundation, known as the Balramji Das Tandon Charitable Foundation that caters to rashan of widows on a monthly basis.
